Throwback: Ricoh Arena – Parking Platform Development
May/2018
In 2014 and 2015 we were asked by the Ricoh Arena in Coventry to provide parking management services for their various events. They wanted to have an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system that would enable them to manage the traffic in and out of the arena more efficiently and be able to track every vehicle to its owner in case of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
The management at the Ricoh Arena recognised that optimising the flow of traffic in and out of the events was of paramount importance to ensure the best customer experience. All too often, traffic management issues can ruin a great customer experience and the Ricoh Arena wanted to minimise the risk of this happening.
As an example, before the start of the Bruce Springsteen concert, cars were checked into the car park. The site being used had no real infrastructure and for the bulk of the year is a humble sports field.
As the event got underway, the 800 capacity parking area was almost full and one of the parking staff reported that someone had left their lights on and they were parked in a crucial spot on the site.
Getting a rescue vehicle in to deal with the issue would very likely lead to long delays at exit. This is where our Smart Traffic Management Platform delivered real value because we were able to scan the number plate and within seconds we were on the phone to a very grateful customer who quickly popped back to turn his lights off without missing any of the action.
